Our Background

Kjell Dahlberg was a Swedish yacht captain on a delivery trip in 1958 from Stockholm to San Remo, when a breakdown in the yacht under his command forced him to make a stop in Palma to carry out repairs.

The repairs kept Mr Dahlberg on the island for a whole year, during which he met his future wife, the Majorcan Rosa Coll. After living a while in Sweden, the couple settled down in Mallorca. They started a family and founded a pioneering company specialized in maintenance and repair of yachts, with a workshop initially in the center of Palma.

In 1980 the couple´s first daughter, Margarita, joined the company after training in the UK at the factory of the prestigious brand B & G. She became the first woman in the company to receive the certificate of an Official Service Technician.

In 1984 the company was restructured into a public limited company called DAHLBERG S.A, focusing the activity into installation, service and repair of the electronic equipment supplied by B & G.

In 1989, as the younger daughter Rosa entered the family business, the company diversified into two main areas; marine electronics and sanitation, adding onboard comfort and safety at sea into the service portfolio later on.

An important turning point in the history of Dahlberg was the obtaining of the qualification ISO 9001 in 2003 for all departments of the company, being one of the first companies in the sector to achieve this. This qualification helped the company to standardize work processes and gain efficiency, allowing still today a continuous updating of processes according to the standards set at the time.

The workshop in the center of Palma was becoming too cramped for the 17-strong staff that provided services practically for all shipyards in Spain. In fact, about 70% of the company´s invoicing originated from the mainland Spain. Thus, in 2006 the company moved to new, bigger premises in Poligono Son Rossinyol on the outskirts of Palma, in order to be able to continue providing an excellent standard of services for the growing clientele. Currently the third generation of Dahlbergs is joining the company, learning from their experienced elders, bringing in a new vision of the future and securing the continuity of this established family company.

Apart from concentrating on their own field of expertise, Dahlberg S.A has always taken also an active role in a larger context in the nautical sector. Margarita Dahlberg was a driving force in the creation of AENIB – The Association of the Nautical Businesses in the Balearic Islands, which defends the collective interests of the nautical sector. She chaired the association from 1999-2017 and has thereafter continued to participate tirelessly as an active board member and an honorary president.
